De zevensprong O

‘The seventh jump’ Learn to count to seven in Dutch.

Each time the song is sung add a number; first time just 1, second time 1 and 2, third time to 3, and so on to 7 and cumulatively add a new action.

Heb je wel gehoord van de zeven, de zeven,

Heb je wel gehoord van de zevensprong?

Ze zeggen dat ik niet dansen kan,

Ik kan dansen als een edelman!

Dat is één.

Have you ever heard of the seven, the seven, Have you ever heard of the seventh jump?

They say I can’t dance but dance I can.

For I dance just like a nobleman!

That is one, that is two, that is three, that is four, that is five, that is six, that is seven!

The circle holding hands skips in a bouncy fashion to the left.

On 'That is one' the children stop and let go of each other's hand and put their right foot forward.

Repeat as above but on ''That is one, that is two' repeat the first action but also step forward with the left leg.

The third time the song is repeated on 'that is three' a new movement is added and so on as below:

That is one: right foot forward.

That is two: step forward with left foot. That's three: kneel on right knee.

That is four: kneel on left knee.

That's five: right elbow on the floor

That is six: left elbow on the ground.

And that is se-e-ven: head bends towards the ground.

Er zaten zeven kikkertjes O

A chance to let off steam between verses by hopping like frogs around the room to the music.

Er zaten zeven kikkertjes,

Al in een boerensloot.

De sloot was toegevroren,

De kikkertjes half dood.

Ze kwekten niet, ze kwaakten niet,

Van honger en verdriet.

Er zaten zeven kikkertjes,

Al in een boerensloot.

Oh there were seven little frogs,

All in a farmer's ditch.

It was completely frozen,

The little frogs cold and stiff.

They didn't squawk, they didn't croak,

With hunger or in woe,

Oh there were seven little frogs,

In a farmer's ditch heigh-ho.

De jongste, die een wijsneus was,

Zei tot zijn kameraads,

Die malle nachtegalen,

Wat hebben die een praats,

Was eerst het ijs maar in de dooi,

Wij zongen eens zo mooi.

De jongste, die een wijsneus was,

Zei tot zijn kameraads,

The youngest one, a clever clogs,

He called to his six friends,

Just listen to those nightingales,

Such silly old warbling sounds,

First came the ice but in the thaw,

We once sang beautifully.

The youngest one, the clever clogs,

He called to his friends and me.

Maar toen de lieve lente kwam,

Zij kwaakten de oude wijs.

Als zij dat zingen noemen,

Wens ik ze weer in 't ijs.

Ik geef die kikkers allemaal,

Voor ene nachtegaal.

Maar toen de lieve lente kwam,

zij kwaakten de oude wijs.

So when the spring came round once more,

They croaked their old refrain.

But if they call that noise a song,

They should freeze in the ice again.

I’d give all seven frogs indeed,

For just one nightingale.

But when the spring came round once more,

They croaked their old refrain.

Hoedje van papier O

‘Make a paper hat’

All children should learn to make a paper hat especially when the sun is shining or indeed if it is raining but maybe not out of paper!

Watch at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ww-UDw7j8P0&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyPXgR9dzr4&feature=related

Stand in a space.

Een, twee, drie, vier,

Hoedje van, hoedje van,

Een, twee, drie, vier,

Hoedje van papier.

One, two, three, four,

Make a hat, make a hat,

One, two, three, four,

Make a paper hat.

En als het hoedje dan niet past,

Zetten we 't in de glazenkas, (glass cabinet)

Een, twee, drie, vier,

Hoedje van papier.

If that hat won’t fit today,

Put it in a box away,

One, two, three, four,

Make a paper hat.

Een, twee, drie, vier,

Hoedje van, hoedje van,

Een, twee, drie, vier,

Hoedje van papier.

One, two, three, four,

Make a hat, make a hat,

One, two, three, four,

Make a paper hat.

Heb je dan geen hoedje meer,

Maak er één van bordpapier,

Eén, twee, drie, vier,

Hoedje van papier.

If your paper hat has gone,

Make a cardboard hat for fun,

One, two, three, four,

Make a paper hat.

Clap hands four times.

Dip knees twice.

Clap hands four times.

Walk round on the spot.

Stamp four times.

Repeat.

Clap hands four times.

Dip knees twice.

Continue as before.

Robinson Robinson O

I have found virtually nothing about this traditional dance during my research and would be grateful to anyone who could provide more information.

Stand in a circle holding hands.

Robinson, Robinson,

Reizen in een luchtballon,

Overzee, oversee,

Met je meisje samen mee.

Robinson, Robinson,

Travelling in an air balloon,

Overseas, overseas,

With your friend together free.

Een, twee, drie, vier,

We dansen en we zingen

En we hebben veel plezier.

Vijf, zes, zeven, acht,

Moeder blaast de kaarsjes uit,

En ik zeg goedenacht!

One, two, three, four,

We're dancing and we're singing

And we’re having lots of fun.

Five, six, seven, eight,

Mum is blowing out the candle,

Time to say ‘good night!'

Make four steps forward raising hands up high.

Move four steps back lowering hands.

Step sideways to the left four times.

Jump sideways to the left four times.

Step sideways to the right four times.

Jump sideways to the right four times.

Blow a kiss.

Twee emmertjes water halen O

‘Two buckets of water’ is a firm favourite in the playground and suitable for older children. It has two parts each with a different tempo.

Watch at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ml16nAxy2v8 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWWWkFqwZ6k

Make two lines with partners facing each other with hands crossed.

Twee emmertjes water halen,

Twee emmertjes pompen.

Meisjes op de klompen,

Jongens op een houten been,

Rij maar door mijn straatje heen.

Two buckets for fetching water,

Two buckets for pumping.

Girls in the clogs are clomping,

Boys on wooden stilts/legs they go,

Moving down the alley-oh.

Van je ras, ras, ras,

Rijdt de koning door de plas.

Van je voort, voort, voort,

Rijdt de koning door de poort.

Van je erk, erk, erk,

Van de erre, erre, erre,

Rijdt de koning door de kerk.

Van je één, twee, drie!

Off we race, race, race,

As the king drives by the lake.

Off we skate, skate, skate,

As the king rides through the gate.

Off we lurch, lurch, lurch,

As the king rides by the church.

With a one, two, three!

Make a sawing movement with crossed hands in time to the music.

The two lines move apart and clap as the two at the head of the line hold hands and skip sideways up the alley followed by the next two couples on each ‘van je...’.

On ‘één, twee, drie!’ the two lines move down to the original starting point ready for the game to begin again.

Waar is Jan met de bokkewagen? O

A bokkewagen is a little goat drawn cart made for children, see one at: http://www.zuytlant.nl/asp/invado.asp?t=show&id=1427

This game is sometimes played in the same way as ‘Ze zevensprong’.

Each time the song is sung add a number; first time just 1, second time 1 and 2, third time to 3, and so on to 7 and cumulatively add a new action.

The game below is a simpler one.

Listen at: http://www.liederenbank.nl/resultaatlijst.php?zoek=51406&actie=incipitnorm&lan=en

Children hold hands in a circle. Jan stands outside.

Waar is Jan met de bokkewagen?

Hij is niet hier, hij is niet daar,

Hij is met zijn meisje naar Amerika!

Dat is één, dat is drie, dat is vier,

dat is vijf, dat is zes, dat is zeven!

Where is John with the little goat wagon?

He is not here, he is not there,

He is with his good friend (girl) in America!

That is one, that is two, that is three, that is four, that is five, that is six, that is seven!

The circle holding hands walks to the left

Jan walks round on the outside.

On 'That is one...' Jan taps a child for each number. The seventh child joins Jan on the outside holding hands.

Continue as above each time the song is sung. As a new child joins the outside line and eventually a new circle is made.
