Little Red Riding Hood O Not
the story as you might know it! If
you wish to play the game below you will need to be very familiar with the
words of this song. Children
stand in a circle. The three main characters are chosen; Little Red Riding
Hood who stands outside the circle, a wolf waiting also outside and a
grandmother who sits sewing on a chair / bed inside the circle. |
Along
the path to grandmother’s house Skipped
Little Red Riding Hood. x2 Her
basket was full of goodies to eat, For
grandma needed a get well treat - Red Riding Hood holding a basket skips round the outside of the circle. The circle claps in time to the music. Chorus: Of
ginger beer, apples and biscuits, Ginger
beer, apples and biscuits, A walnut cake that mother did bake And ginger beer, apples and biscuits. The
circle skips round to the left holding hands. LRRH
puts her basket down and claps hands in time to the music. And
through the wood as quick as she could Skipped
Little Red Riding Hood. x2 Her
basket was full of goodies to eat, But a
very bad wolf spied those lovely treats - Of
ginger beer... The
circle hold hands high as LRRH skips with the basket in and out of the trees. Wolf enters the circle and rubs his tummy as he creeps round. Chorus: as before + wolf claps too. She saw some flowers and picked for an hour, Sweet Little
Red Riding Hood. x2 Her
basket was full of goodies to eat, And in went the flowers for an extra treat - With the ginger beer... The
circle hold hands high as wolf skips in and out of the trees. LRRH
picks flowers in the centre and puts them in her basket. Chorus: as before Wolf claps outside Wolf got to the door of grandmother’s house Before Little
Red Riding Hood. x2 Now grandmother was delicious to eat But pudding was in the basket of treats - Of
ginger beer... Wolf enters the circle and pretends to gobble up
grandmother; she moves outside. He rubs his tummy and creeps round. Chorus: as before Then through the door of grandmother’s house Came Little
Red Riding Hood. x2 Her
basket was full of goodies to eat, The flowers
were there for an extra treat - With
the ginger beer... LRRH
enters the circle and skips round. She stops in front of the bed where wolf is
sitting and scratches her head. Chorus: as before But there in the bed was a very strange head, Thought Little Red Riding Hood. A wolf
underfed - it was time that she fled! Poor Little Red Riding Hood. Wolf sprang with a leap to grab at those eats She whopped him hard with the basket of treats - Of
ginger beer... LRRH
looks worried with hands to cheek. Wolf
jumps up and chases her in and out of the children in the circle. She stops in the circle and taps the wolf with
the basket - he falls to the ground. Chorus: as before Old wolfie hiccupped and
grandma came up “Wicked!” said Red Riding Hood x 2 Wolf beat a retreat with nothing to eat, He left behind the basket of treats - Of
ginger beer... Wolf
jumps up and hiccups and gran reappears. LRRH
looks surprised, then glad and hugs grandma. Wolf runs outside the circle. Chorus: as before Gran threw on her wig and danced a fine jig With Little Red Riding Hood x 2 On a table set neat they had plenty to eat And nothing was left in that basket of treats - No
ginger beer... LRRH
holds hands with gran and dances round. The
circle claps. LRRH and gran sit down and
mime eating. Chorus: as before but gran and LRRH join the
circle to dance.

Jimbo and Jack O When giraffes get
playful anything might happen. Which pair can contort into the best twist? Hold hands in pairs. |
Jimbo and Jack were two
giraffes, Oh my goodness how they made us laugh. They knotted their necks and they knitted their
knees, Tied in a tangle what a terrible tease. Well they wiggled and they jiggled and they
wiggled one time more, And they gave a little giggle as they fell upon
the floor. Then up jumped the two quite untwisted and unbent, We’re such ‘knotty’ little fellows, But for laughs are heaven sent! or We’re such funny little fellows, But for laughs are heaven sent! |
Skip round. Lift hands high and make a twisted shape. Wiggle and still in shape drop to the floor. Jump up released from contorted shape. Hold one
arm up high and walk gracefully round the room. Greet a new partner ready to play the game again. |
The mermaid and the whale O
When a mermaid gets playful everything changes but
being a thoughtful creature she also manages to solve each problem as it
comes along. |
Once a
merry mermaid dressed in sea green scales, Tugged
at the tail of a ten ton whale. Well the
whale he wept and the whale he cried, He wept
many buckets from his teeny tiny eyes. The
ocean rose, it rose so high, It
covered the land and it covered the sky. The
seagulls screeched and the guillemots crowed: “The
world is drowning in salt water oh!” So that
merry mermaid dressed in sea green scales, Tickled
the tummy of the ten ton whale. Well the
whale he laughed and the whale hiccupped, He
scooped up the seas, yes he drank it all up. The
ocean sank, it sank so low, It left
the sky and lowlands oh. The
seagulls purred and the guillemots cooed: “We need
a world with its oceans blue!” Then
that merry mermaid dressed in sea green scales, Tossed
up her treasures to the ten ton whale. Well the
whale he smiled a smile so big and wide, He
scooped up her treasures, and he jumped up high. The
ocean rolled, it rocked and roared, The sky
turned black and the rain did pour. The
seagulls squawked and the guillemots moaned: “The
stormy sea is our ocean home!”

With
Wynken, Blynken and Nod O
In
1889 the poet Eugene Field published a beautiful poem about these three
wonderful characters; it was later set to music and filmed by Disney. Wynken, Blynken and Nod have
since become synonymous with bedtime as they sail and fish through the night
sky in a wooden shoe. Find out more at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wynken,_Blynken,_and_Nod. This
song was inspired by Ben, a 2½ year old Australian relative, who in his
pyjamas at bedtime had just discovered the moon. He also loved to point and
say ‘Oo-ooh!’ in order to get a reaction. Woe
betides if you did not point back and answer ‘Oo-ooh!’ |
Ben saw the moon in the night sky, The moon saw Ben; winked an eye. “Oo-oo!” said Ben, “Oo-oo!” said the moon, “I’ll sing you a soft lullaby, I’ll sing you a soft lullaby.” Chorus With Wynken, Blynken
and Nod, Wynken, Blynken and Nod, “We’ll rock you to sleep As the stars skip and leap,” Sang Wynken, Blynken
and Nod. Ben saw an owl in the night sky, The owl saw Ben; winked an eye. “Too-whit-too-woo!” said Ben, “Too-whit-too-woo!” said the owl, “To the land of dreams we shall fly, To the land of dreams we shall fly.” Chorus Ben saw a cow the night sky, The cow jumped over the moon. “Moo-moo!” said Ben, “Moo-moo!” said the cow, “See you in Sandy land soon, See you in Sandy land soon.” Chorus Ben saw those three little fellows, Fishing up there so high. “Oo-ooooh!” said Ben, “Oo-ooooh!” said the three, “Come sail in our boat through the sky, Come sail in our boat through the sky.” Chorus |
